It’s been so exciting to see the little dancers waking up to Jesus’ love teachers!!  Keep on going!  When you show them Jesus’ love for them they will discover that Jesus can put that love and confidence in them too.  The dancing is simply a way to show them that.  You’re teaching them dance from the inside out.  Giving and receiving love on the inside is our first priority and dancing well is our second priority.

A great example of happened Saturday as I watched a 3 year old girl named, Dora.  I can see with eye’s from Christ that Dora’s mother is bilingual and struggling with English.  She is frightened to not only speak but to make eye contact for fear she will have to speak.  The result of this is that Dora is also fearful.  The apprentice, Olivia, brought Dora back to her mom in the waiting room in tears after about 5 minutes of dance class.  Dora curled up into her mom’s arms and got a hug then picked up her mom’s pink sparkly phone and giggled.  As I brought Dora a Kleenex her mom did take the phone away from her and refocus her on her dancing shoes.  I encouraged mom and said she could take Dora back to class and stand by the window until she felt confident.  Another 2 minutes went by and they were back in the waiting room and mom was getting her warm up clothes ready for her.

I asked her mom, “Does she want to give up?”.  Her mom said, “Yes”.  I said, “Do you want to give up?”  She said “No.”  I asked her if she would let me help and she agreed.  So I asked Dora and her mom to follow me into the dance classroom.  When they arrived I asked a very dispirited Dora if she wanted to help me with the music knobs and buttons for a moment.  She got excited about that.  I enthusiastically picked her up and now with our backs to the rest of the kids and only mom in sight I asked her to turn up the music.  She did….and then she grinned.  FYI…she didn’t want to turn it back down- so I did.  So we turned to the rest of the kids, at the tail end of Miss Rachel’s dance combination, and I asked, “Who likes the music real soft like this?”.  1 hand went up.  Then I asked, “Who likes the music louder?”.  More hands went up.  “Dora, will you turn this up?”.  She did and grinned at all of the classmates.  Rachel then turns the class leadership over to Olivia, her apprentice.  As she’s doing this, I’m still holding Dora.  “Dora, would you like to spin?” She nods yes.  Then, I do four rotations of soutanes.  She grins.  She’s ready for her own feet now.  So, I put her down and ask her if she would hold my finger.  She had to reach up high and then I spun her again four times.  You can guess, She’s spinning now.  We high five and I ask Rachel to pick her up.  Rachel asked Dora to press –pause- on the music.  I ask Olivia to continue with the class for a moment and Rachel picks up Dora for a spin.  Now she is smiling at Mom and Rachel and her classmates.  So Rachel puts her on her feet and spins her with her finger.  She’s ready to continue with Rachel’s instruction.  I exit the classroom.

Once the class is complete, Dora and her mom are happy and smiling.  It was a waiting room high five moment.  Dora’s mom beamed and had experienced a connection from all of the mom’s.  A sibling in the waiting room told their mom they wanted to get back to dancing again.  It really goes to show that people already know how to dance.  The greater priority is what we are giving the people who arrive for dance lessons.  BIG THANKS to Rachel for flowing through the moments and simply letting the Holy Spirit guide her classroom.  It was an unrehearsed moment for the Lord’s love to shine.  Another FYI…Rachel didn’t know that Dora had been asked to help with buttons.  She only knew that the button needed pressed and Dora could do it.
